James Alexander Tanford
Alex Tanford is of counsel and practices on a limited basis. Before associating with the firm, Mr. Tanford was a professor at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law for 35 years, where he taught trial practice, evidence, civil litigation, and constitutional law. He maintains his office in Bloomington.
Mr. Tanford generally does not take clients himself, but assists the other members of the firm with civil litigation and appeals, especially on issues of constitutional law and federal practice. He was co-counsel with Mr. Epstein in Granholm v. Heald, in which the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Michigan’s ban on interstate wine shipping.
Mr. Tanford graduated with distinction from Duke Law School in 1976, was an Assistant District Attorney in New York City, and is admitted to practice in Indiana, before the U.S. Supreme Court, and in numerous federal courts around the country.
He is the author of over 20 books and articles on litigation, evidence, constitutional rights and alcoholic beverage law.
